AnyLogic and AnyLogic Cloud releases

This year, AnyLogic 8 and AnyLogic Cloud releases have included a range of functionally valuable features that offer you considerable flexibility when solving various business- and technology-related issues. Let's recall the add-ons from the year 2024.

AnyLogic

AnyLogic 8.9 brought us updates designed to enhance modeling productivity and collaboration. Key highlights include Git integration for version control and a new model format .alpx that facilitate task-sharing and simplify work on complex models.

This release also introduced a memory dump analyzer, which helps identify and resolve memory consumption issues with intuitive visualization tools. With this feature, debugging and optimizing model performance have never been easier.

AnyLogic 8.9.1 introduced built-in support for Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MariaDB, so no more manual driver setup is needed. The update also enhanced downtime management with flexible controls in the Process Modeling Library, enabling precise scheduling for maintenance. In addition, transporter manual control has also been added, allowing users to move transporters directly to nodes.

Later, in version 8.9.2, we added new features to the Material Handling Library, a 6-axis robotic arm. The arm offers synchronized motion, customizable link lengths, and flexible end effector options. The new ProcessByRobot flowchart block further simplifies automation by managing robot interactions.

The final update of the year, AnyLogic 8.9.3, brought the NVIDIA Omniverse connection, enabling the creation of high-fidelity 3D animations synchronized with simulation data for visually impactful presentations.

On top of that, we also worked a lot on updating the Road Traffic Library, so now it supports diagonal parking, prioritized parking policies, and traffic flow control.

AnyLogic Cloud

As for AnyLogic Cloud in 2024, we had two interesting releases. Version 2.4.1 introduced a diagnostics tool for easier troubleshooting, improved scatter plots for better sensitivity analysis, and boosted performance with Java 17 for faster, more secure simulations.

The release of AnyLogic Cloud 2.5.0 presented the Completed Runs view; it lets you track and analyze model run results in a table, with sorting, filtering, and export options. It simplifies debugging and result management, especially for multi-run experiments.

Also, we added Single Sign-On (SSO) for Private Cloud Pro and Enterprise users. It allows secure logins through identity providers like Google, Microsoft Entra ID, Ping One, and OKTA.

With AnyLogic Cloud 2.5.1, we presented the technology preview of AnyLogic 9, a SaaS model editor available for all AnyLogic Cloud users.

Blog posts

Over the past year, we've published 25 blog posts filled with valuable insights into simulation modeling, covering a wide range of topics to support your understanding and application of AnyLogic. From leveraging ChatGPT for data analysis in AnyLogic models to creating custom solutions like robotic cranes without advanced programming, our posts aim to make simulation more accessible and practical.

We’ve also explored how simulation can optimize real-world systems, such as integrating SAP with AnyLogic for enhanced manufacturing efficiency or using digital twins to improve hospital operations in Canada. For those in the automotive industry, we’ve shared strategies for addressing challenges like supply chain disruptions through simulation modeling.

If you missed any of these topics, our blog remains a rich resource to revisit and deepen your simulation experience.

Case studies

In 2024, we released 16 case studies exploring diverse topics: manufacturing and production, warehouse operations, business processes, supply chains and logistics, healthcare, rail logistics, and more.

Among these materials, you can find 2 cases from Amazon. One is about network flow optimization; it showed how simulation can help cut goods travel time and decrease overall mileage. The second one focuses on transportation network optimization via truck yard revision.

For those of you who are into the aviation topic, we advise checking out the Archer Aviation case study. It highlights transforming urban mobility with eVTOL aircraft and the use of AnyLogic to optimize vertiports and charging systems. With the help of simulation modeling, the Archer Aviation team designed efficient layouts, paving the way for their air taxi service.

Migros Online, a leading Swiss online supermarket, optimized its warehouse-picking process using simulation models. This approach helped secure management approval for investments and led to a 5% reduction in shipping costs.

If you want to learn how AnyLogic integrated with SAP helped save $4 million on inventory, check out the ITE case study.
