Striving to bring you increased capabilities and features, AnyLogic continues to broaden vertical solutions inside the product. AnyLogic 7.3 brings enhanced Fluid Library and new Road Traffic Library. In this post, I will highlight Fluid library, its functionality, and main features, with a brief walkthrough. The Fluid Library has been already used in real projects that prove its efficiency. It is Modeling and Optimization of Wells Scheduling for In Situ Oil Sands Production model, developed by Stream System. The simulation challenge was presented at AnyLogic Conference 2015. This post should help answer the following question: why and when I should use the Fluid library instead of Process Modeling library (and sometimes instead of System Dynamics).

Improve Model Testing with One Simple Function

Check out the latest blog post from my colleague and friend, Ben Schumann a senior modeler at decisionLab with a Ph.D. in Complex Systems Simulation. Moreover, as you know, Ben is a significantly experienced AnyLogic User, who works with diverse clients such as the MoD, Rolls-Royce or GSK. He handles project delivery from start to end, managing team members, and client communication. Dr. Schumann’s post asks a crucial question, “Are you testing your models?” If the answer is yes, he provides advice for better more efficient testing, and if not, let Ben share some advice on how. Go beyond traditional testing methods (i.e. visual, “traceIn” statements, analyze output data, apply dedicated unit testing) and create a structured, repeatable approach, or dedicated function. Learning conceptualization; Simple warehouse unloading model.

This short tutorial shows how to build a simulation model based on a real-world problem description, using an example of a simple warehouse unloading process model. Also, it teaches to set animation and choose what-if scenarios to test. The AnyLogic User Support Team created the tutorial. The model simulates the arrival of trucks with two types of cartons to a warehouse. Workers unload the cartons, which then move on conveyors to the pallet stacking zone. After palletizing, the goods are moved by forklift trucks to the storage zone. Download the tutorial and accompanying material via our website.

What’s new in AnyLogic 7? Usability Improvements

For the 2nd edition of the “What’s New in AnyLogic” blog, I would like to share with you one of the main priorities for our development team during their work on the new version. This most exciting advancement is around product usability. The new version contains many upgrades that fundamentally improve the modeling process in AnyLogic software. These enhancements make your everyday modeling easier, with fewer clicks, less typing and less time spent repeating actions. First, we tried to cut down on the amount of code you have to type while building a model. For example, now elements can be chosen by using drop-down lists, which significantly accelerates the workflow. To make a reference in a logical object (for example, Queue or Delay block) to a graphical object (for example, path, node, area), you only need to click on the object in the Graphical Editor. This allows for two quicker and easier ways to set links between elements.

In this blog, you will become familiar with the new User Interface, which even at first glance looks transformed. Continue reading, and see what changes have been made, and why these changes make working in AnyLogic even simpler. The first thing you will notice when you launch AnyLogic 7, after the new logo and graphics, is the renewed positioning of workspace elements. The default settings place palletes on the left side of the screen and properties on the right side while, console and problems tabs are hidden.
